As the world of branding evolves, so too does the packaging of the products being sold. Looking ahead, there are many trends that are predicted to dominate when we consider custom design packaging. Read on to find out more about how these trends will shape the future of branding.
Sustainability:
Sustainability has been incorporated into packaging for some time now and this is a trend predicted to continue to grow. Not only is this eco-friendly move favorable with many consumers, but governments are initiating taxation programs that will make non-recyclable products costlier to buy. In response, manufacturers are increasing their efforts to produce recyclable packaging and even taking over the recycling of their packaging. There will also be an increase in more economical and sustainable bulk packaging.
Packaging Reflecting the Shrinking of the Middle Class:
Despite government efforts, there seems to be no doubt that the middle class is shrinking as more jobs are given to robots and white collar work is being seen as a commodity. In response labeling trends will shift to appeal more to lower income consumers and luxury buyers.
A Reduction in Branded Packaging:
Packages feature branding so they will appeal to a customer and help products stand out on supermarket shelves. However, more products are being purchased on the internet reducing the need for branding which gets products noticed. Because of this, there may be a shift in logo and packaging design as companies devote more of their budget to developing packaging that offers optimal protection and products that will ship easily.
Stricter Labeling Laws:
Health is a major concern for consumers and governments alike. Consumers want to stay healthy and governments are looking to keep healthcare costs low. In response, there is a movement to update packaging, so it clearly informs consumers about unhealthy ingredients. Packaging size may also be limited for foods that are unhealthy. Companies will struggle to stay updated on current regulations adding to relabeling costs and putting margins and profits under pressure.
Private Label Design Domination:
As retailers realize private labels can improve their sales growth, more of these companies will be featured on supermarket shelves. These private labels are also expected to dominate in other industries like food service, meal replacement programs and added value programs that will appeal to the younger generation. Packaging, in turn, will feature less sophisticated graphics and more unique shapes and printed technologies.
As packaging continues to evolve, brands will want to update to incorporate the latest trends into the way they represent their products. That’s why teaming up with the right design company is so important.
