When you start a business, the first thing you will want to do is build a brand identity. This may seem like a complicated process but just taking some time to think about your business and what it stands for can help you achieve this goal. To be sure you have all your bases cover, here is a great process for finding your voice.
Create a Persona
The persona of your brand should be a direct reflection of your target audience. Think of the type of language they use, the styles they like and how they communicate and incorporate this into your branding. Of course, the connection here should be natural and not forced so think of developing a persona that also feels right for you.
Connect with a Celebrity
When trying to define your brand, it may be easiest to do so if you think of a celebrity and the way they act and the things they do and use their typical traits to communicate. Of course, the celebrity you choose should be one that you feel represents your brand well and will connect with your target audience.
Come Up with the Right Adjectives
Another exercise that can help you define your brand involves quizzing your team. Talk to the people you work with and ask them to come up with five adjectives that they feel best define your business. The answers they come up with should set you in the right direction.
If you are finding there is a large discrepancy in the adjectives they are coming up with, this may be cause for concern. Your employees may not be as familiar with your business as you would like them to be or your may be having problems projecting a cohesive image. If this is the case, you will want to rethink your strategies.
Review Your Content
Sometimes the best answers come from within. If you are struggling to find a brand voice, look at the social media you’ve created including your tweets, blog posts, status updates and more. What adjectives pop out at you? What are some similar themes? This is information that can be useful in establishing your identity.
Try a Brand Voice Generator
If all else fails, a brand voice generator can be a great tool that can help you create an identity for your company.
