The world is getting more environmentally friendly and companies and people are doing all they can to cut down on waste. Many companies are doing their part by providing reusable food packaging label design. This packaging can be used to hold refills of their products or it can come in handy in other aspects of a person’s life.
Let’s look at some major companies and see what they are doing to make their packaging more environmentally friendly.
Reusable Containers
In the past few years, many companies have gotten on board with initiatives to provide reusable containers for a greener tomorrow. Unilever is providing deodorants that will come in refillable steel containers. PepsiCo will be selling orange juice and cereal in glass bottles and steel containers. Haagen Dazs ice cream will come in refillable, stainless steel containers.
This is all reflective of an effort to make companies, as opposed to consumers, more responsible for the recycling process as the focus is being put on reusing as opposed to just recycling.
TerraCycle
The recycling company, TerraCycle is playing a formidable role in all this. It is launching a program in which goods will be delivered to customers in reusable tote bags with no extra packaging. Once the containers are empty, TerraCycle picks them up, cleans them and delivers the refilled containers back to the customers.
Right now, the program is in its testing stages as the company is working with consumers to see how effective it will be. It is currently available to 5,000 shoppers in Paris and New York and, if all goes well, it will be expanding to 10 additional cities in 2020.
The move to go greener will be a costly one and companies must make the choice to absorb the cost or pass them on to the customer.
In the case of the TerraCycle program, costs for reusable containers will be about the same, but consumers will need to pay a deposit of $1 to $10 for use of the packaging. While this may deter some cash strapped customers, it is hopeful that many will realize how dire the circumstances are and do their part, even if it’s a bit of a sacrifice.
